Alright, let’s be real—talking about the end times isn’t exactly a feel-good, cozy campfire conversation. You’re probably not going to see it on a Hallmark movie anytime soon. But Jesus talked about it, Paul warned about it, and John had an entire Revelation about it—so maybe we should, too.

When we read 2 Timothy 3:1-5, it’s like reading the news but with better grammar. The Bible lays out what the world will look like in the last days, and let’s be honest—it’s eerily accurate.

“But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.”

2 Timothy 3:1-5

That’s a long list of ugly, and yet, we could probably check off every single one of those things just by scrolling through social media for five minutes.

Then we flip over to Luke 21:25-26, where Jesus tells us that things are going to get really bumpy before He returns. Natural disasters, political chaos, people losing their minds—basically, Tuesday.

“There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken.”

Luke 21:25-26

Now, if you’re like me, you read that and start feeling like the third monkey on Noah’s Ark when it started raining—and that’s not a great place to be. But before we go into full-blown panic mode, we have to remember Matthew 24:36, where Jesus Himself reminds us that we don’t know when this will all go down.

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.”

Matthew 24:36

So, yes, the end is coming. But does that mean we should be out stockpiling canned beans and tinfoil hats? Or should we just kick back and ignore it? That leads us to some big questions:

  • Will the end come in my lifetime?
  • If it does, what does that mean for me?
  • Should I be worried, or just keep living my life since I can’t change it?
  • Should I be preparing in some way?

Will the end come in my lifetime?

Well, if you’ve got some insider info on this, please, share with the class—because Jesus said nobody but the Father knows. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be ready.

“So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”

Matthew 24:44

Translation? Jesus isn’t going to send a “Be Right There” text. There won’t be a countdown timer flashing in the sky. So whether it’s next week or 500 years from now, our job is the same—live prepared.

If it does, what does that mean for me?

That depends—where do you stand with Jesus?

“Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

Luke 21:27-28

For those who know Jesus, this is not bad news. This is the best news ever. It means redemption, renewal, and eternal life. But for those who have rejected Him… well, let’s just say now would be a great time to reconsider.

Should I be worried, or just keep living my life since I can’t change it?

Good question. But Jesus already answered it.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.”

John 14:1

So, should we worry? Nope. Should we ignore it? Also nope.

Jesus doesn’t tell us to run for the hills—He tells us to stand firm in faith. Fear is for people who don’t know how this story ends. But if you belong to Jesus, you do. Spoiler alert: He wins.

Should I be preparing in some way?

Absolutely. But not in the “dig a bunker and hoard 15 years’ worth of ramen” kind of way. The Bible tells us exactly how to be ready:

“Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

2 Peter 3:17-18

We prepare by:

  • Growing in our relationship with Jesus.
  • Sharing the Gospel like there’s no tomorrow—because one day, there won’t be.
  • Living in obedience to God’s Word.

Being prepared isn’t about surviving—it’s about surrendering.

We Do Not Need to Fear the End.

Yes, the world is on fire. Yes, things are getting worse. But if you belong to Jesus, you already know your destination.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

John 14:1-3

That’s not fear. That’s hope. That’s assurance.

Jesus has already reserved our spot. No matter how bad things get, our future is secure. The end of this world is just the beginning of eternity with Him.

So What Should We Do?

This is not a time to panic, and it’s not a time to coast. It’s a time to:

Stay Rooted in Jesus.
Live Boldly in Faith.
Keep Our Eyes on Eternity.
Be Ready.

We don’t know when the end will come—but we do know how the story ends.

And for those in Christ, that ending is just the start of something incredible.

So, let the world shake. Let the storm rage.

Our faith stands firm.

Jesus is coming. Are you ready?
