Steadfast in Every Season

Steadfast in Every Season

Verse of the Day:
“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” – James 1:12

Most of us don’t have to be reminded to run to God when life gets tough. When trials hit—whether it’s sickness, loss, financial struggles, or heartbreak—we drop to our knees real quick. We cling to Him, pray without ceasing, and seek His strength just to get through the day.

But what about when everything is going right?

When life is smooth sailing, when the bank account is comfortable, when work is going well, when our relationships are peaceful—it’s so easy to get a little… lazy in our faith. We don’t mean to, but we pray less, we read our Bible less, and before we know it, we start thinking, I’ve got this.

And that’s when the enemy strikes.

Prosperity Can Make Us Forgetful

It’s no accident that many people find their faith weakest in their strongest seasons. When we feel self-sufficient, we forget that we are never self-sufficient. Deuteronomy 8:11-14 warns against this very thing:

“Take care lest you forget the Lord your God… lest, when you have eaten and are full and have built good houses and live in them… then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.” (Deuteronomy 8:11-14, ESV)

God knew that prosperity often leads to forgetfulness. It’s in our comfort that we tend to drift from Him.

Why We Need Him in the Good Times, Too

The enemy is strategic. He waits for our guard to drop, for our dependence on God to weaken, and then he sneaks in. Jesus warned His disciples:

“Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41)

Even when things are going well, we still need to be on guard, because temptation and spiritual attacks don’t take a break. If anything, they intensify when we’re least expecting them.

Consistency Over Comfort

James 1:12 reminds us to remain steadfast under trials—but what if we extended that steadfastness to all seasons of life? Instead of waiting until things get hard to seek God, what if we built a habit of daily dependence on Him? What if we remained just as prayerful, just as grateful, and just as humble in the good times as we do in the bad?

Proverbs 3:5-6 says it best:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Notice that it says in all your ways, not just in struggles.

Stay Close to God—No Matter What

If life is hard right now, hold onto James 1:12. Remain steadfast and trust that God will carry you through. But if life is good? Stay close to Him anyway. Keep praying. Keep reading His Word. Keep depending on Him.

Because whether life is a storm or smooth sailing, we never stop needing Jesus.

Prayer:
Father, help me to remain steadfast not just in trials but in all seasons of life. Remind me that I need You just as much when things are good as I do when things are difficult. Keep my heart humble, my faith strong, and my dependence on You unwavering. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

No matter what today looks like—whether it’s a struggle or a blessing—stay close to God. Because He is the source of your strength in every season.
