Introduction: March Madness (Not the Basketball Kind)

You ever notice how March is basically Mother Nature’s mood swing month? One day, it’s warm and sunny, and the next, you’re scraping ice off your windshield wondering if you somehow slept through spring and woke up in January. It’s the month of the great weather identity crisis.

They say, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. It’s usually about the weather, but what if we applied it to life? What if we charged into our months with boldness and courage, like a lion, but learned to walk out of them with peace and trust, like the Lamb of God? What if we lived with both strength and surrender? Let’s talk about it.

The Lion’s Courage: Facing Life Head-On

A while back, I had a project that felt like it was trying to eat me alive. The kind of task that makes you want to hide under a blanket and hope it solves itself. But, like a lion (or maybe just a sleep-deprived man with too much coffee), I charged forward.

There’s something about the lion that we admire—its fearlessness, strength, and unwavering focus. It doesn’t hesitate, it doesn’t second-guess. It sees its goal, and it goes for it.

Proverbs 28:1 says, “The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.” A righteous boldness isn’t about arrogance or recklessness; it’s about stepping into challenges with faith, knowing God’s got our back. Think of David, a young shepherd boy who faced a giant with nothing but a sling and some stones. He didn’t win because he was the biggest or strongest—he won because he trusted God and stepped forward boldly.

That’s the kind of lion-boldness we need. When challenges roar at us, we don’t run. We stand firm, trusting in God’s strength.

The Lamb’s Peace: Learning to Rest in God

Now, if we only lived with lion energy, we’d burn out faster than a cheap candle. This is where the Lamb comes in.

John 1:29 says, “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’” Jesus, as the Lamb, represents humility, peace, and surrender. He willingly laid down His life, trusting completely in the Father’s plan.

And let’s be real—resting in God’s peace isn’t always easy. Sometimes, we’d rather keep roaring, keep controlling, keep fixing everything ourselves. But Matthew 11:28-30 reminds us: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

That’s the peace of the Lamb. It’s trusting that even when we stop striving, God is still in control. It’s knowing that we don’t have to roar all the time—sometimes, we just need to rest in Him.

Living the Lion-Lamb Balance: Strength and Surrender

So how do we actually live this balance? How do we start our months with courage but walk through them with peace?

1. Step Boldly Into Your Calling (The Lion’s Charge)

  • Identify one area where you need to be bold. Maybe it’s sharing your faith, pursuing a new opportunity, or facing a challenge with courage instead of fear.
  • Pray for boldness. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” Boldness begins with seeking God’s wisdom.
  • Take action. Lions don’t hesitate. Neither should we when God calls us to move.

2. Learn to Rest and Trust (The Lamb’s Peace)

  • Surrender what you can’t control. 1 Peter 5:7 reminds us, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” Worry doesn’t change outcomes—faith does.
  • Make space for stillness. Whether it’s setting aside daily quiet time, meditating on scripture, or simply breathing deep in prayer, stillness reminds us that God is in control.
  • Trust in God’s timing. We may want things now, but Isaiah 40:31 says, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

Conclusion: Marching Onward with Strength and Peace

March might be a chaotic mix of weather, but our lives don’t have to be. We can step forward with lion-hearted courage while resting in the peace of the Lamb. Boldness doesn’t mean never resting, and peace doesn’t mean never taking action. It’s about knowing when to charge ahead and when to surrender.

So this month, let’s roar when it’s time to stand firm and trust when it’s time to rest. Because life’s best lived with both the strength of a lion and the peace of the Lamb.

Closing Prayer:

Father, thank You for the strength You give us to face each day with courage. Help us to step forward in bold faith like the lion, knowing You are with us. At the same time, teach us to rest in Your peace, like the Lamb, trusting that You hold all things together. May we live each day balancing strength and surrender, knowing that our hope is in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Call to Action:

This March, identify one area where you need to step out in boldness and another where you need to surrender to God’s peace.
